KAREN M. SCOTT

     Lead Teacher.  Karen is the lead teacher at AugsburgAcademy and has held that position since the second year of the school’s inception. Karen is also the Grade 1 and 2 teacher and has taught Kindergarten as well.

     Academic Background.  Karen is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in Canada.  She holds a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology.  Karen holds a teaching certificate from the Newfoundland Department of Education, and is currently working towards Maryland state certification.  She is planning to begin a Master’s degree in Library Sciences next year.

     Professional Background. Karen has taught in four different countries on three different continents. Right out of university, she headed to South Korea where she taught English as a Second Language (ESL).  Karen also taught in the public school setting in England for over 3 years, before accepting the Kindergarten position at Augsburg Academy and coming to the United States.  In between those jobs, she taught high school in various parts of Canada. 

      Personal Background.  Karen wanted to be a teacher ever since she was a little girl who played ‘school’ with her two baby sisters.  She is a Canadian by birth and is very proud of it! With her partner, William, she has two small children and very little free time.
